Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens
The Royal Family seems to spend a lot of its money on flowers. Beats me. There are a lot of kids who do not go to school in Thailand because the parents have to pay after a few years and the don't have the money. The flowers are gorgeous, but, to my mind, Thailand needs other things more than it needs flower gardens. Having said that, this one was the most spectacular one AlteCocker saw. She could not stop taking photos. Because there are no organized day trips, AlteCocker and her new Chiang Mai expat friend, Carolyn Stuebgen hired a taxi for the journey. You have the driver drop you off up on top and walk around the flowers there. Then you go down the hill and visit a waterfall before calling it a day. It is a very steep walk up the hill. The Gardens do not get a lot of tourists but we did run into a group of elementary school kids.
The Gardens are north of Chiang Mai near the elephant camps. There is no public transportation.
