Perth Australia to Wellington New Zealand June-September 2018
This is the cover page for AlteCocker's daily blog of her Northern Hemisphere summer 2018 home exchange trip to Australia and New Zealand. Details of of the activities all have subblogs. Both home exchanges were through Homelink.org
The trip begins with a 6 week home exchange in Perth Australia.
AlteCocker then flies north to the Australian tropics. She will have time in Broome, Darwin, and the Great Barrier Reef. The trip to the northern towns will not be in home exchanges as the area is relatively sparsely populated making home exchange very difficult. The reason AlteCocker is trading the steamy Washington DC summer for the winter in Australia is that the Australian tropics are only tolerable during their winter. The seasons are, of course, reversed. The Australian winter is the dry season. During the the Australian summer, it is hot, hot humid and subject to massive storms. So, you do want to go during the winter if you go north.
Then AlteCocker visits a friend for a little over a week in Melbourne Australia before flying to Wellington New Zealand for her second home exchange down under. The trip finishes on September 30, 2018.
This is AlteCocker's 4th trip to Australia and 3rd to New Zealand. She has previously exchanged in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Blue Mountains, Canberra and Melbourne in Australia. She has previously exchanged in Kamo and Christchurch in New Zealand. Additionally, she has had one exchange of hospitality in Tasmania and also visited Tasmania once with a hotel stay. So this trip will be to areas not usually visited by first time visitors to either country. Originally, AlteCocker had an exchange in Tasmania in August, but the individual cancelled. When that happened, AlteCocker decided to make lemonade from lemons and visit the north of Australia instead. That necessitated hotel stays, of course. Much of the time in Broome and Darwin will be on tours to scenic areas near there. There is a 12 day tour of the Kimberly and other sites out of Broome and a 4 night tour out of Darwin.
Stay tuned to AlteCocker Travels for the blogs. AlteCocker left the United States on June 13, 2018, and arrive in Perth on June 15, 2018 (loss of day due to crossing the international dateline going west). She will return home at the end of September.
